Brusies on Ice

Today is another snow day. We've had 20 inches of snow since December 1st. It's a bit more than usual, but the forecast calls for 4-8 more today. So while the kids are home from school I can get caught up on laundry and blogging.

Ian had a school play on Friday called the "Three Piggy Opera" and he was the saw. They sang several songs and showcased their Kindergarten talents. We had a fun time watching him interact with the other kids and rub his chin when they sang, "Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin."

Suzanne is learning how to "do" Gini Lu's straight hair. Gini Lu was quite proud of her braids. (As was her Momma!)

Monday was the first day of ice skating lessons for Ian and Bobby. We saw the St. Louis Blues play the Dallas Stars recently and that helped them get even more excited about ice skating. Bobby was all grins all the time! He loved every minutes of it.

Is that not a million dollar smile on Bobby?

It was gut wrenching for me (Suzanne) to watch Ian skate. He fell 12 times the first time he skated across the rink. And that was the width of the rink- not the length of it. He's so tall and thin that those falls must have been painful. Joseph and I estimate that he fell no less than 50 times in 30 minutes. I guess this is the way life is with kids- you watch them "try on" life and fall and get back up.

Ian stopped briefly to regain his composure (a.k.a. cry). He was a trooper- he didn't ask to quit he stuck with it!

Bobby fell quite a bit, but his groups wasn't thrown into skating quite like Ian was. Ian is in a class for 6-15 years old. It's called Basic 1. The girls were great at skating and Ian and another little boy were obviously first timers.

Bobby's class is called SAM 1. It's for 3-6 years old. We chose to put Ian in a more challenging class and let Bobby be on his own. It was a good decision. Each time Bobby fell he just grinned! He's a bit more padded and doesn't have to fall quiet as far as his big brother.

This weekend we went to the hunt club as a family. I had not yet been there but Joseph and the boys had been a few times. It was fun to watch Bull point at birds and then chase them. I'd never been bird hunting and look forward to going again.

Here's the sequence of events:

Point!

Shoot! (In this picture you can see the bird (on the far right about a third of the way from the bottom) just before it was killed.)

Retrieve!

Pose for Mom!
