St. Patrick's Day is Bobby's Day

Monday is Bobby's 5th birthday. (This is him at 9 days old.) Do you know how special this day is to us as parents? Very!

Bobby really shouldn't be here. When Suzanne was pregnant with him we were told we were miscarrying. It was a difficult time. Needless to say, God carried him (and us) through that pregnancy. 14 months after his birth he spent a tumultuous month in Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome from e. Coli. He survived what easily could have taken his life. Click here to see his website from 2004.

Now, his kidneys have recovered to the point he no longer needs med. His blood pressure has returned to normal and he is a perfectly normal child! Other than a three inch scar from his belly button straight south, another scar from the central line in his chest, and, finally, one in his groin area from the line for the hemodialysis he looks just like other five-year-olds.

Never will we forget on Mother's Day of 2004 we were told that Bobby would die without hemodialysis. He spent about a month on dialysis, had countless blood and platelets transfusions, was on tons of meds and had several surgeries.

We took these photos not knowing what was to come. Would these be the last pictures? We were absolutely heartbroken! Bobby had gained more than 6 lbs on his 25 lb. frame because he had total kidney failure (among other issues).


Singing to Bobby was very comforting to him while he was connected to several wires and tubes. This was the one that ALWAYS settled him down. Still floods our hearts with emotion.
